Football team rebounds
After a slow start, the Howe Sound Hitmen are turning things around, with another win in North Shore Football League play.
The Hitmen won 21-6 over the Vikings on the weekend, getting three touchdowns from quarterback Reniel Belandres. The win bumps the Hitmen up to third in the league, and coach Troy Wilton is confident about his team’s chances come playoff time.
Next up the team faces the Westside Warriors on Oct. 16.
Bill Landy Loonar Enduro
SORCA is celebrating 20 years of the Bill Landy Loonar Enduro on Oct. 15. People are encouraged to come in style for the ride, even dressed as favourite celebrities.
Registration starts at 1:30 p.m. along the Ring Creek Forest Service Road, with the ride to start at 2 p.m.
The Loonar will also kick off the 2016 7mesh7hour challenge, which challenges riders to four hours of riding in a seven-hour time period to compete for one of six leaders’ jerseys. The challenge runs until Dec. 27. For more information, see www.7mesh7hours.com.
Whistler 50
BC Athletics is hosting the 6th annual Whistler 50 Relay and Ultra on Oct. 15. The 50-mile event is open to relay teams of eight, four, two or solo ultramarathoners, with everyone from first-timers to seasoned ultramarathoners tackling distances ranging from seven to 80 kilometres.
The ultra race starts at 6 a.m. and the relay starts at 8 a.m. For more information, contact [email protected].
Community Crawl
Join members of the Â鶹Éç¹ú²úTrails Society on the third Sunday of each month from April through October to explore the proposed Turtle Trail route that links Brennan Park, the Adventure Center, Howe Sound Brew Pub, Sikh Temple, and the Railway Heritage Park. The route consists of about 11 km of paved and unpaved trails through forest, estuaries, and river dikes.
Riders will meet at 10 a.m. at a different location each month. This final one of 2016 takes place at the Â鶹Éç¹ú²úAdventure Centre. As the loop takes around two hours to complete, riders should plan to finish about noon.
