Alejandro Mujica, a Â鶹Éç¹ú²úresident and Capilano University student, is officially a sponsored athlete.
Mujica will participate in the Â鶹Éç¹ú²úTriathlon: A Memorial to Bob McIntosh on July 15, thanks to the sponsorship of Green Clean.
When Amy Remark of Green Clean learned of a new Â鶹Éç¹ú²úTriathlon sponsorship category that allowed her company to sponsor the entry of a young triathlete, she jumped at the new opportunity.
Green Clean is covering Mujica's entry fee, paving the way for him to participate in the race without worrying about money while studying at Capilano University's Â鶹Éç¹ú²úcampus.
"We are very happy to have the support of sponsors like Green Clean and student athletes like Edgar," said race director John French. "We encourage other sponsors to take advantage of this program because we have identified at least two more university students who could use this sponsorship support."
Promoting the sport of triathlon in general and specifically for Â鶹Éç¹ú²úresidents is one of the purposes of the Â鶹Éç¹ú²úTriathlon and the program aligns with that part of the triathlon's vision.
"The Â鶹Éç¹ú²úTriathlon has always been a popular race with people new to the sport and this new program promotes that tradition," French said. "Our race usually attracts a large number of teams and many of the team competitors are getting their first taste of a triathlon with the goal of competing solo in future years."
