The 麻豆社国产United U18 Girls rep team won top spot in the BC Coastal Girls League with a 3-0 win over Port Coquitlam on Sunday, Dec. 14, and that means a long-standing promise by the team鈥檚 coach will become true.
Head coach Andy King has coached the group of girls since the U12 age group and told the team during their U16 year that if they won a gold level division, he would take the team to England 鈥 just like he did for a boy鈥檚 team he previously coached.
And now King and the girls are heading across the pond for Spring Break.
鈥淭he commitment and dedication these young ladies have shown over this season and seasons past is a credit to themselves,鈥 King said.
It鈥檚 the 16th and final year of coaching for King and he said it should be a great way to end off his coaching career.
鈥淐oaching is what volunteering is all about,鈥 he said.
The team put together a record of eight wins, one loss and one tie en route to the regular season title win, and outscored its opposition 42-10 during the year. The club returns to the pitch in mid-January for cup competition.
King said the trip to England will last 10 days and should be a thrill for the girls.
鈥淚 know some of these girls have never left the country and one has never been on a plane,鈥 he said.
He said they鈥檙e going to spend time in his native Manchester, along with London and there will also be a few special surprises along the way.
Fundraising for the trip begins in the New Year and stay tuned to The 麻豆社国产 for details on how local people can help this trip become a reality.聽
