It turned out to be a Â鶹Éç¹ú²úsweep in the 6.9-kilometre sport course at the Salomon 5 Peaks race at Alice Lake on Saturday (June 7).Ìý
Â鶹Éç¹ú²úrunner Ben Kwiatkowski posted the top time of 41 minutes, 30 seconds and right behind him was Zoe Dawson, who had the top female time of 44:39.Ìý
It’s the first time in the three-year history of the event that a local runner has placed first in either the male or female divisions of the sport race.
A total of 167 runners participated in the sport race. Other locals who placed in the top 100 included: Chuck Clark (52nd), Garret Gentle (54th) and Christine Strub (85th).
Vancouver’s Jordan Maynard was the fastest in the 11 km enduro run (50:25), as he edged Maple Ridge’s Mike Murphy by just two seconds. Laura Bestow from Whistler was tops among females with a time of 59:33 after she beat out Victoria’s Patricia Roney by 27 seconds.
Kasper Woolley had the top local time in the enduro, as the Don Ross Secondary School Grade 9 student finished 35th overall with a time of 1:04:44. He placed second in the 15 to 19 division at the event.Ìý
There were 223 participants in the enduro and locals in the top 100 included: Claire Johnstone (50th), Jeff Norman (57th), Ralf Strub (72nd), Andrew Fodor (79th) and Jenny MacPhee (83rd).
Vancouver Canucks defenceman and Team Canada gold medalist Dan Hamhuis also participated in the enduro race, finishing 61st overall.
This year also featured the return of the timed kids’ three km race. Burnaby’s Ronan Whiteside was first overall with a time of 16:01. Whiteside beat out North Vancouver’s Dash Ervin by one second and North Vancouver’s Lily Irish by two seconds to win.
Squamish’s Sam Arthur was the lone local representative, placing 37th with a time of 27:07. A one km children’s challenge race also occurred but results were not kept for that run.
