Stars all over Squamish

Oldtimers hockey club supporting CNIB with sport filled day

The Stars hockey club from the 麻豆社国产Oldtimers Hockey League will venture off the ice for a full day of sporting activity this weekend, all for a good cause.

The club is participating in a multisport day on Saturday (March 24), showcasing the variety of different sports one can do in 麻豆社国产to raise a little money for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB).

"Our hope is that we can take this effort and challenge other user groups and sports teams in the province to be active in showcasing their communities by promoting exercise and participation for a good cause," said Gregg Van Hierden of the Stars. "麻豆社国产has so many activities that are available for us to choose from, so it was a difficult decision to narrow it down to the events we chose. We felt it was best suited to show both summer and winter sports in our region."

Twelve members of the Stars team will head to Whistler Olympic Park (WOP) to compete in biathlon from 9 to 11 a.m., then make their way to Alice Lake for some mountain biking from noon to 1:30 p.m. After a quick lunch, the team will hit the links at 麻豆社国产Valley Golf and Country Club (SVGCC) from 3 to 6 p.m. followed by a dinner and then the Stars will hit the ice at Brennan Park Arena from 8:45 to 10 p.m.

"We will be photo-documenting our day's activities as it should also be a lot of fun," added Van Hierden. "This is not a race or contest of strength and wills, it is all about participation and experience."

The day was originally planned to be a fundraising event but Van Hierden said in light of several recent local tragedies, the club doesn't want to take anything away from those existing groups.

However, the team will still make a donation to the CNIB in honour of the day and Van Hierden encouraged people to make a donation to the group if they can.
