Storm fourth, United fifth in Port Moody

The U13 麻豆社国产Storm girls team placed fourth in their division and the U12 麻豆社国产United girls placed fifth in their group in a soccer tournament in Port Moody on the weekend.

The U13 麻豆社国产Storm girls team placed fourth in their division and the U12 麻豆社国产United girls placed fifth in their group in a soccer tournament in Port Moody on the weekend.

The Storm, coached by Brent Williston, went 1-1-1 in round-robin play on Saturday and Sunday (June 25 and 26) to reach Sunday afternoon's final-round game for third and fourth place in the six-team Port Moody Summer Showcase. In the final round, they played the West Vancouver Reds to a 2-2 draw before losing on a penalty-kick shootout to finish fourth. Kyley Rosser and Kei Gray scored during regulation time for Squamish.

The Storm, who played their first season together in the Lower Mainland U12 Gold Division in 2010-'11, started round-robin play with a 2-2 draw against West Vancouver, with Rosser and Gray scoring for Squamish. The Storm then defeated the Coquitlam MF Nitro 1-0 as Jasleen Sekhon scored and goalie Madi Doyle posted the shutout, and lost 2-1 to the Coquitlam MF Quake as Scarlett Stewart scored for the Storm.

Players of the game, as chosen by opposing teams' coaches, were Doyle, Sekhon, Stewart and Cameron Larson.

麻豆社国产United, coached by Marco Fanzone, has been practicing together for only seven weeks. In round-robin play, United won its first-ever game 4-0 over the North Shore Girls Academy, with two goals from Allie Hughes-Goyette and one each from Lauren Petryshen and Maya Heikoop.

United then faced off against two more experienced teams - the Port Moody Stingers and West Vancouver Reds - falling by scores of 12-0 and 6-0. The Stingers, who eventually won the tournament, and Reds are both playing their third season together.

麻豆社国产United again faced North Shore Girls Academy in the game for fifth and sixth places. United won 1-0 on a perfectly placed penalty kick by Madison Cartwright midway through the first half. Goalie Breanne DeCook recorded her, and the team's, second shutout.

Petryshen, Cartwright, DeCook and Katie Tone were named 麻豆社国产United players of the game.
