Summer biathlon is returning to Whistler Olympic Park (WOP).
The Callaghan Winter Sports Club (CWSC) is hosting four events over the summer and all athletes aged eight and up are invited to take the races on.
There are two bike and two run races planned and competitors will either do three run or bike laps, followed by two shooting opportunities. According to the CWSC, these events are fun and recreational in nature and are a great way for beginners to try out the sport of biathlon.
There will be cruiser and challenge distances for the bike and run races, with all courses being on paved trails. Mountain, road and cruiser bikers are all eligible for the bike races.
No previous firearms experience is required and participants will receive rifle safety, target shooting instruction and an opportunity to practice before taking part in the events.
The series will kick off on July 22 with a cross run event, followed by bike biathlons on Aug. 4 and Aug. 26 and a final run biathlon on Sept. 16. It costs $20 for those 18 and under and $25 for participants 19 and up. Registration and sign-in for the events takes place from 10 to 11 a.m., with the rifle safety instruction at 11:30 a.m. The races kick off at noon.
More information and pre-registration for the events is available online at www.callaghanwintersportsclub.com.
