After a successful inaugural year in 2014, the CMW Canadian Surfski Championships are returning to the waters of Howe Sound – only this time, the event occurs one month earlier.
Event organizers announced that the event will be occurring on July 18 in 2015, while last year’s race ran on Aug. 23.
The debut event saw 94 competitors travel from Porteau Cove to Downtown Squamish. It attracted a healthy international contingent, with South Africa’s Sean Rice edging out Australia’s Clint Robinson for first place in the men’s division. South Africa’s Michele Eray took home top honours for the women.
Organizers are hoping to attract more of that high level and international competition by suggesting travelling racers pair the Â鶹Éç¹ú²úevent with the Gorge Paddle Festival in Oregon, which occurs from July 22 to 25. The 2014 edition of the race managed to lure in top racers by positioning the event after the US Surfski Championships in San Francisco.
