It wasn't just bikes hitting the 麻豆社国产trails during Test of Metal weekend. Dozens of feet took on the singletrack outside of Quest University at the first-ever Survival of the Fittest race.
The event took place on Sunday (June 16), with runners participating in either a 13- or 18-kilometre race. A total of 24 runners competed in the 18 km race, with 18 runners taking on the 13 km challenge.
Tumbler Ridge resident Kristopher Swanson won the 18 km race, posting a time of one hour, 29 minutes, 20 seconds. Swanson beat out second-place finisher Mike Murphy from Nanaimo by over six minutes to secure the win. Vancouver's Kathy McKay had the top female time at 2:00:58.
Vancouver's Anne-Marie Madden won the 13 km race with a time of 1:12:58, beating out Ontario's Melanie Sakowski by just under two minutes. Patrick Jones had the top men's time and finished third overall at 1:17:34.
The Survival of the Fittest is the third race in the four-race Coast Mountain Trail Series. Earlier races included the Cap Crusher in March and the Buckin' Hell in May. The series concludes with the 麻豆社国产50 23 km race on Aug. 10.
