For the first time since 2010, the Gearjammer winner came from south of the border.
Snoqualmie, Wash. native Toby Swanson wrestled the title from Â鶹Éç¹ú²úresident and defending champion Greg Day with a time of 2:33:28. Day finished 27 seconds behind Swanson at the Saturday (July 18) race.
Gearjammer was another excellent showing in July from Day, who also won the BC Bike Race’s open men team of two division earlier this month.
Whistler’s Michael Robinson placed third, completing the course in 2:36:02.
Squamish’s Meghan Kindree was the fastest female, posting a time of 3:02:40. She placed 26th overall and edged out Squamish’s Zoe Dawson by three minutes and 43 seconds to earn top female spot.
It’s the first win at the Gearjammer for Kindree. It continues a strong summer for her, after a solid sixth place finish amongst all women at the Test of Metal on June 20.
Day, Kindree and Dawson weren’t the only locals to fare well, as other Â鶹Éç¹ú²úresidents in the top 50 included: Chris Christie (ninth), Eric Goodwin (12th), Nathan McKay (13th), Jean-Sebastien Lareau (16th), Mike Reed (20th), Michael Kinney (25th), Joel Harwood (27th), Rob Phoenix (31st), Simon Gravel (35th), Mark Haldenby (42nd) and Kyle Good (44th).
