Test of Metal weekend is almost here and Squamish鈥檚 biggest bike race event is again jam-packed with events.
The 20th anniversary features the return of the Pre-Test party at Brennan Park this Friday (June 19), and the chariot races are back.
Teams of two must build a chariot to pull behind their bike and then navigate an obstacle course. A trophy will be awarded to the top team.
The party also includes the silly bike races, which sees teams of four race on tricycles in a relay race. Other activities include: bike limbo, a bicycle show and shine, a kids zone and live music from Bluesberry Jam. Food and refreshments from Casa Norte Taco and Gelato Carina will also be available on site.
It all goes down from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Brennan Park parking lot.
The big race goes down on Saturday, with more than 800 riders competing in the 67-kilometre challenge. Riders take on over 1,200 metres of climbing and 35 kilometres of singletrack, and the mass start kicks off at Brennan Park at 11 a.m.
An added wrinkle to this year鈥檚 race is that TOM and Run 麻豆社国产are partnering up to crown the first ever 麻豆社国产Mountain Family Competition champion. The top combined male and female times from the TOM and the Sea to Sky Scramble trail race will win prizes. All kids who do both events will also receive prizes.
For the first time in the history of the event, a relay race is also available at this year鈥檚 race. Teams of two will split the course; it鈥檚 only being offered this year as part of the 20th anniversary celebration.
Returning again for 2015 is the 14th annual Linda Carney Rotary Cares Celebrity Challenge. This fun event features local representatives from groups and businesses, and all competitors have raised money for the Linda Carney Rotary Cares Fund. The LCRCF helps local families who require financial assistance with health-related problems that are not covered by other sources of medical funding.
It鈥檚 all about the kids on Sunday. The annual Mini-Metal returns at 9 a.m. sharp and sees youngsters start at the 麻豆社国产Adventure Centre and roll along the Loggers Creek trail system all the way to Brennan Park.
The Mini-Metal is designed for kids on run bikes all the way up to 24-inch wheel bikes.
Downhill riders also get the spotlight on Sunday with the annual Rockstar downhill event. Open only to 麻豆社国产riders, the course starts on the top of the Cougar Ridge trail in Valleycliffe and finishes on the pipeline road. The fastest time wins, and spectators are welcome. Rockstar is weather-dependent, so if it鈥檚 raining, it鈥檚 unlikely to occur.
