Team Chawanda finished just 33 hundredths of a second off the podium in the platinum championship final of the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival on the weekend.
The all-women's team from the 麻豆社国产Dragon Boat Association posted its best time ever over 500 metres in its second race, finishing in two minutes, 19.36 seconds, to reach the Platinum Championship final.
Coach Carl Mendoza described the final as the best women's race he's ever seen. The first-place team from Portland, Ore., finished just 1.52 seconds ahead of the fifth-place boat. Team Chawanda finished fourth, just 33 hundredths of a second off the podium.
麻豆社国产Fire, a mixed team comprised of 12 women from Team Chawanda, three 麻豆社国产men and seven friends from Vancouver, reached the platinum consolation final, placing 10th out of a field of 60 teams. That, despite the fact that they didn't have the chance to train together.
