Team 麻豆社国产dominates Pumpkin Cross

Local riders take top five spots in U17 boys division

It was a spooky but successful debut for several Team 麻豆社国产members at the annual Pumpkin Cross cyclocross race in Maple Ridge on Sunday (Oct. 23).

The Halloween-themed race sees riders take over the Maple Ridge Equi-Sport Centre and the track features several spooky obstacles such as the giant spiral of death and Lezyne Lake.

Team 麻豆社国产head coach Mike Charuk said the kids enjoyed the event.

"They seemed to really like it," he said. "This race is all a part of introducing the kids to a variety of cycling disciplines."

Team members' enjoyment of the race translated into success, as local riders took up the first five spots in the U17 boys category. Luke Di Marzo finished first in the 40-minute race, followed by Ethan Toom, Carsten Lapointe, Rhys Verner and Sam Berrisford.

Charuk said that next up for the team will be a training camp in November at the Harry Jerome Velodrome in Burnaby. According to Charuk, the camp will introduce riders to another new discipline and keep them fit for the upcoming winter-schedule lull.
