Teen curling league glides into Â鶹Éç¹ú²úthis season

New league hitting the ice in October

Summer’s almost over and one big indicator of the changing of the season is the return of the ice to the Howe Sound Curling Club (HSCC).

The HSCC, which is celebrating its 30th year, is looking to attract a younger audience this year with the new juvenile league.

The league will run every Monday for eight weeks starting on Oct. 19 and is open for ages 12 to 17. The curling is from 3:45 to 5:30 p.m. The session includes instruction, rules and etiquette, and team play.

HSCC’s Hilary Fisher said it’s important for local youth to improve their skills because the club is hosting the juvenile regional Curl BC playdowns from Jan. 24 to 26.

Registration for the league will be held on Sept. 9 and 16 from 7 to 8 p.m. Those interested can also register at the front desk of the club Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Returning for this season are the regular men’s, women’s, mixed, social and charity league teams. The club also hosts several bonspiels in 2016, including the annual men’s and women’s events in January, the master men’s in February and the mixed bonspiel in March.
