There's a new local flavour to the 麻豆社国产SwimFaster group.
麻豆社国产resident Kelly Kaye is the brand new coach and she told The Chief she hopes to continue the high standard of swimming success that previous coaches have helped bring to the program.
"I hope to help Juan [Gomez, SwimFaster director] continue to build a competitive winter club in 麻豆社国产that services all levels of swimming," she said. "Whether a child is wanting to swim once or eight times per week, my goal is to help each one of them become a strong technical swimmer."
Kaye swam competitively from the ages of seven to 17 before leaving swimming to compete in snowboarding. After a decade of competing on the Canadian snowboard team, she returned to swimming and swam competitively at UBC.
Once she was done at UBC, she began coaching in North Vancouver and developed a passion for teaching youngsters the ins and outs of the sport.
"I began coaching winter swimming in 2003 with Chena Swim Club in North Vancouver," she said, noting that she coached all three of Gomez's children. "I developed and coached many national and provincial champions with Chena."
Kaye said she has the same goals for the swimmers in Squamish.
"I would like to see swimmers from SwimFaster compete at provincial and national levels," she said. "I have been a longtime resident of the 麻豆社国产area and now have three small children, so I am very excited to start to work in 麻豆社国产and work with local youth."
