Thousands of GranFondo cyclists ready to roll

Sixth annual event on Sept. 12 includes Medio race that ends in 麻豆社国产this year

It鈥檚 almost time for the biggest spandex invasion of the year.

The sixth annual RBC GranFondo Whistler will blast through 麻豆社国产this year on Sept. 12, when thousands of cyclists are set to take part in the big ride.

The course sees participants hit the road in downtown Vancouver starting with the Forte Class at 6:05 a.m. Riders cycle over the Lions Gate Bridge and follow Highway 99 through the Sea to Sky Corridor all the way to the finish line in Whistler.

One big change for 2015 is the new route for the 67-kilometre Medio race. In the past, the race started in 麻豆社国产and ended in Whistler, but this year riders will start with everyone else in Vancouver and finish in 麻豆社国产along Mamquam Road and Highway 99. Riders are then transported to Whistler for post-race activities.

麻豆社国产will also host the cheer station at the Garibaldi Village Mall from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.聽

The 2015 edition of the event has the most prize money up for grabs ever, with a total of $50,000 to be awarded. The top male and female winner each receive $15,000. Big names confirmed for the race include: Will Routley, Zach Bell, Geoff Kabush, Shoshauna Routley, Megan Rathwell and the entire Red Truck racing team.

As in years past, 麻豆社国产will see several road closures on east-west crossings of Highway 99 during the GranFondo.

There will be no traffic access to Loggers Lane from Highway 99 at Cleveland Avenue or Industrial Way from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Motorists are advised to use the Centennial Way underpass to access Loggers Lane during that time period.

Valley Drive, Scott Crescent, Mamquam Road, Garibaldi Way, Depot Road and Alice Lake will see full closures from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with intermittent delays between 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.聽

In Britannia Beach, there will be single-lane alternating traffic in effect for one kilometre, with no northbound right turns at Main Street from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Furry Creek local traffic will be rerouted via internal roads to access Highway 99 northbound and southbound from 7:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.聽
