Three Quest athletes recognized

Hitchcock, Sandbichler and Kang honoured by Pacwest

Quest University basketball star Nicola Hitchcock concluded her college career with another honour as she was named to a Pacwest second team all-star.

Hitchcock led the Kermodes women at 9.7 rebounds per game and was third on the team in scoring at 9.1 points per game (ppg). She's only the second Kermode to be named a league all-star.

"Nicola has been our team captain, our leader and the anchor of our defence this year," said Quest head coach Mike Woollard. "Nicola is a threat to score a double-double every night and even though it only happened four times in league play, she has been a point or two and/or a rebound shy five additional times."

Quest's Katrin Sandbichler also picked up two honours, being named the Pacwest rookie of the year and to the league's all-rookie team.

"Kati's team-first attitude has been a welcome addition to our roster this year," Woollard said. "Her size, skill and athleticism on the floor has consistently created matchup problems for other teams."

Sandbichler led the Kermodes in scoring at 12.6 ppg and was second in rebounds at 8.5.

Gurminder Kang of the men's team was named to the all-rookie team after a spectacular first year. Kang was a key offensive player all year for the Kermodes, highlighted by a season high 24-point performance against Douglas College on Feb. 11.

"We knew he was athletic but I didn't think it would translate to this year as fast as he did," said men's head coach Sean Shook. "He hit a bit of a wall midseason but he pushed through that door and played really well for us since after New Year's."
