Thrower, Blades stay alive

Saskatoon wins crucial game at Memorial Cup

Squamish's Dalton Thrower and the Saskatoon Blades picked the perfect time to shake the team's playoff funk.

After opening the 2013 Memorial Cup with a 3-2 loss to the London Knights on Friday (May 17), the Blades bounced back with a 5-2 win over the Halifax Mooseheads on Sunday (May 19).

The victory kept the Blades alive in the four-team tournament and it also marked the team's first playoff win in more than two years.

Two games into the tournament, Thrower is a plus one and has accumulated two penalty minutes.

Saskatoon was set to wrap up round-robin play at the Memorial Cup on Wednesday (May 22) against the Portland Winterhawks. Results from that game were not available at press time.

Semifinal games for the event take place on Friday (May 24) with the championship being awarded on Sunday (May 26).
