Thrower off to combine

麻豆社国产native gearing up for 2012 NHL draft

With less than six weeks to go until the 2012 NHL draft, 麻豆社国产native Dalton Thrower will get a chance to see how he measures up against the best young hockey players on the planet after being invited to the draft combine.

The combine, whjch takes place May 28 to June 2 in Toronto, gives NHL teams a chance to get to know the prospects through interviews, as well as medical and physical testing.

It was another early exit for Thrower and the Western Hockey League's Saskatoon Blades, as the club was bounced in the first round of the playoffs by the Medicine Hat Tigers. But the team's disappointing season hasn't impacted Thrower's pre-draft ranking.

Thrower was the 26th-ranked North American skater by NHL central scouting, rising by four spots in the final version of the list that was released on April 9. The Hockey News magazine added fuel to Thrower's fire by ranking him the 29th-best prospect for the draft.

He capped his third WHL campaign with the Blades by finishing eighth in league scoring among all defenceman and was named Saskatoon's top rearguard. It's expected that Thrower could be a late first round or second round pick at the draft.

In the meantime, Thrower has returned to Howe Sound Secondary School to graduate with his peers this spring. The NHL draft, which takes place in Pittsburgh, is set for June 22 and 23.
