One measly second.
That's all that separated Squamish's Cody "TKO" Smith from tasting All Star Wrestling (ASW) tag-team gold in his hometown on Nov. 5. Smith and his tag-team partner Mr. India had the tag-team champions, Team Japanada, on the verge of defeat before the monster Lak Siddartha viciously attacked Smith.
However, the two recently got word that they will have another opportunity to go for the gold on Jan. 28 in North Vancouver and Smith said he and his partner are ready to take home the gold.
"We've been training and practicing and have become really good friends," Smith said of his teammate. "We decided to form a team permanently and Team Japanada is going down. Two-thousand eleven is a year for change and what better change than new tag-team champions for ASW."
Smith has wrestled in Japan, Australia and Western Canada during his career but has failed to capture gold in his home country. He said it would be an honour and a real boost for his career to win the titles.
"It would be a great opportunity for me to win the tag belts," he said. "People want to see the champs and holding a title is something that everyone in this business wants to do. Winning a championship is like being recognized for busting you're a-- in the ring and is all part of the path to become a true champion. It's all part of a stepping stone to achieve greatness in this industry."
If Smith and Mr. India are successful, Smith said he plans on bringing the titles back to 麻豆社国产and giving all the people who supported him a chance to experience the championships up close.
"It would be an honour to bring back the belt to Squamish," he said. "We could have autograph signings, pictures with the belt, whatever. 麻豆社国产supported me in my comeback match and they have helped me a lot in my journey back into the ring."
The man who took away the chance for Smith to win gold in his hometown, Lak Siddartha. will also be on the Jan. 28 ASW show and Smith admitted that his presence remains in the back of his mind.
"I would like to stay focused on winning the tag titles, but I know he will be there," he said. "We might have some words and I know our issues are nowhere near over."
Smith also pointed out that ASW is planning on returning to the Totem Hall on April 9, 2011. The card is still yet to be determined but Smith confirmed he will be eager to perform again in front of his hometown.
He also encouraged 麻豆社国产wrestling fans to make the trek to North Vancouver on Jan. 28 to see him get another chance to win gold.
"North Van is only a hop, skip and a jump away and it would be awesome to see some familiar faces in the crowd cheering me on," he said.
The show will take place at the Chief Joe Mathias Centre in North Vancouver on Jan. 28 with a scheduled bell time of 8 p.m.
