The 麻豆社国产50 continues to grow, and what was formerly just a race has now evolved into a trail running festival.聽

The third annual event, highlighted by the grueling 50-mile trail race, now features a jam-packed weekend to attract trail runners of all shapes and sizes.

It all kicks off on Friday (Aug. 15), with the first of two nights of films being shown at the Eagle Eye Theatre. The Trails In Motion Film Festival (TIMFF) comes to 麻豆社国产airing six films on both Friday and Sunday (Aug. 17).

Action on the trails kicks off early on Saturday (Aug. 16), as 50-mile runners start off at the 麻豆社国产oceanfront at 5:30 a.m. The challenging course sees participants wind their way through the 麻豆社国产backcountry and eventually finishing at O鈥橲iyam Pavilion Park dowtown.聽

Previous winners of the 50-mile race include Squamish鈥檚 Jason Loutitt and North Vancouver鈥檚 Ellie Greenwood in 2012, and Victoria鈥檚 Adam Campbell and Seattle鈥檚 Kristin Moehel in 2013.聽

Also on Saturday is the free kids race starting at noon at Pavilion Park. The free race has a 500-metre race for children five and under, one-kilometre race for ages five to eight and a 1.5-km course for children aged eight and up.聽

Sunday is another big day for the event, with both the 50 km and 23 km races occurring. It鈥檚 the second year for the 50 km race to be included at the 麻豆社国产50 and the course kicks off at 6 a.m. at Alice Lake with the finish line also at Pavilion Park.

The 23 km race, which is also a part of the Coast Mountain Trail Series (CMTS), gets underway at Quest University at 8 a.m. Like the other races, participants will cross the finish line at Pavilion Park.

Past winners of the 50 km were Squamish鈥檚 Eric Carter and Victoria鈥檚 Catrin Jones, while the 23 km race winners from last year were Squamish鈥檚 Brad Schalles and Vancouver鈥檚 Anne-Marie Madden.

The weekend concludes with the second part of the TIMFF on Sunday night and the featured presenter for the evening
will be Salomon sponsored runner
Jorge Maravilla.聽

The event is completely sold out, but organizers are looking for volunteers. For more information on how to volunteer and about the 麻豆社国产50 trail running festival, visit www.squamish50.com.聽
