Cycling

La belle province proved to be bonne for several 麻豆社国产riders.

Team 麻豆社国产members Rhys Verner, Sean Fincham and Luke Di Marzo traveled to Quebec for a pair of big races.

First up was Canada Cup #3 in Baie-Saint-Paul on July 15. Competing against the best riders in Canada in their age group, Verner completed the course in 1:09:34 and placed third. He was two minutes and 33 seconds behind winner Raphael Auclair of Quebec. Quinton Disera from Ontario was second and was about 10 seconds off the pace.

Fincham placed fourth, clocking in at 1:10:58, and Di Marzo was seventh with a time of 1:13:36.

The trio then traveled to St. Felicien for the Mountain Bike Nationals on July 18. Verner again was the top local rider, placing second with a time of 1:03:35. He finished just four seconds behind Auclair.

The result wasn鈥檛 without some controversy, as both Team BC and Team Ontario submitted protests after they declared that Auclair had rubbed out competitors. After the protest was reviewed, judges determined there was no evidence to back up the claim.

Fincham placed fourth at the race, posting a time of 1:04:47, and Di Marzo ranked sixth (1:06:14).

The Nationals team is still yet to be selected, but it鈥檚 likely that Verner and possibly Fincham will be picked to represent Canada in Europe this fall.

麻豆社国产was also represented in the U17 division, as Holden Jones placed fifth with a time of 52:39. Team 麻豆社国产members Nick Kleban and Hunter Verner placed 12th and 13th respectively.

Also competing at the event was Squamish鈥檚 Quinn Moberg, who placed sixth in the U23 men division. Moberg was about five minutes behind winner Alexandre Vialle from Quebec.

Meanwhile, Squamish鈥檚 Harry Head traveled to Invermere to compete at the Canada Cup downhill series race two after returning from Europe. Head placed 10th overall at Sunday鈥檚 race and posted a time of 3:37.84. Next up for Head is the BC Cup in Golden this weekend and Canada Cup race three in Whistler in August.
