The top team in the Vancouver Metro Soccer League鈥檚 (VMSL) Division 3C made it five in a row with a 3-1 win against Norwest United in Vancouver on Saturday, Oct. 4.
麻豆社国产opened up the scoring in the 15th minute after Captain Richard 鈥淕olden Boot鈥 Collins was taken down in the box for a penalty shot. Collins stepped up to the spot and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner followed by a celebratory finger waggle to make it 1-0 for Squamish.
聽Jeremy 鈥淏ig Cat鈥 Galley made it 2-0 for 麻豆社国产in the 30th Minute with a lovely strike from 20 yards out. Galley and Collins then teamed up in the 35th with Collins beating two defenders and finding Galley in front for a tap in to make it 3-0.
麻豆社国产would continue to control the play in the second half until the 65th minute when they would lose Darryl "Knee Brace" Simmons to a shoulder injury and be forced to play the rest of the game shorthanded.
Norwest would score to make it 3-1 in the 70th minute, but goalkeeper Sam 鈥淎fro鈥 Dunkley would make a couple of big saves late, including a Ron Hextall-like pad stacker on a breakaway to preserve the three points and the victory.
麻豆社国产remains on top of Division 3C of the VMSL with the win and sport a record of five wins and no losses. The team returns to the friendly confines of Brennan Park to take on Bosna SC on Saturday (Oct. 11) at 5:45 p.m. For more details on the league, visit www.vmslsoccer.com.
Over in the Howe Sound Men鈥檚 Soccer League (HSMSL), it looks like Whistler has some competition in former champion Galileo.
Galileo improved to three wins and no losses on the season with a 4-2 win over Sikh Temple on Sunday, Oct. 5. Alexis Fernandez and Phil Dubrulle notched a pair of goals apiece for the winning side, with Gurpreet Rai and Taran Bir replying for Temple.
Galileo is now tied for first in the HSMSL with Whistler and both teams sport a perfect three wins and no losses record. Temple, the defending champs, drop to one win and two losses on the season.
The day鈥檚 other game saw the Ellis Moving Eagles blank the 麻豆社国产Gunners 1-0. Akber Taimuri scored the winning goal for the Eagles. The win was the first of the season for the Eagles to go with three losses, while the Gunners are winless in three games.
The league takes a week off for Thanksgiving, but returns to the pitch on Oct. 19 with the Gunners battling Sikh Temple and Galileo taking on Whistler. For more on the HSMSL, visit www.howesound.snappages.com.
