It was the intermediate and novice loggers' chance to shine at 麻豆社国产Days Loggers Sports on Saturday (July 30) and a packed house at the Al McIntosh Loggers Sports Grounds witnessed a strong showing from our neighbours to the south.
Brandon Hintz from Seabeck, Wash., took home the intermediate Logger of the Day award, while Trebb Rainey from Lynden, Wash., picked up novice Logger of the Day honours.
Hintz picked up wins in the intermediate chop, the intermediate obstacle pole bucking and placed second in the novice chokerman's race.
Meanwhile, Rainey also cleaned up, winning the novice axe throw, the novice standing block chop and grabbed second in the intermediate springboard chop.
But it was also a fine showing for several local competitors, including many who were making their debut.
Veteran competitor Rob Drygas picked up the Sportsman of the Day award and had a solid afternoon. Drygas finished second in the intermediate obstacle pole bucking, third in the novice climb and also participated in several other events.
Squamish's Jesse Bifano took home first place in the novice chokerman's race, with a time of 26.26 seconds, beating out the second-place competitor by more than two seconds. Squamish's John Folinsbee also placed fourth in the event.
Local competitor Allan Carson proved his versatility, finishing second in the novice underhand chop, second in novice birling and seventh in the novice chokerman's race.
Squamish's Alan Laurie also picked up a second place finish in the novice climb.
Other winners included Nick Van Brocklin (novice underhand chop), Ed Campbell (novice birling), Dan Horsman (intermediate double hand bucking and novice climb), Scott Thompson (novice stock appearing powersaw) and Lukas Brown-John (intermediate springboard chop).
On Saturday evening, Chances Casino hosted the 麻豆社国产Days Axe Throw Invitational, attracting a strong crowd to the casino's parking lot.
After narrowing the field down to a 32-person tournament, Brad Laughlin beat out Matt Mooney in the final to win the $700 and bragging rights for the weekend. Wade Stewart placed third, while Mitch Hewitt finished fourth.
