It鈥檚 been a good summer for the Team 麻豆社国产mountain bike team, and it could be an even better autumn.
Local riders Rhys Verner and Sean Fincham are heading to the World Championships in Andorra on Sept. 3. The pair had excellent showings at the Canadian Nationals in Quebec in July, with Verner finishing second and Fincham placing fourth in the junior expert men division.聽
The stellar performances helped earn their way onto Team Canada. It鈥檚 the first time Fincham has competed at the World Championships; for Verner, it鈥檚 his second straight year.聽
Verner and Fincham also competed at Canada Cup #5 in Whistler on Friday (Aug. 14), with Verner earning top spot and Fincham placing sixth. Other local athletes competing at the event included: Brandi Heisterman (sixth, elite women) and Quinn Moberg (seventh, elite men).
Fincham also excelled at the Western Canada Summer Games in Alberta this month. Fincham and fellow Team 麻豆社国产rider Luke Di Marzo both medaled in the eliminator race, with Fincham winning gold and Di Marzo earning bronze. Fincham also won gold in the cross-country race, with Di Marzo placing fourth.
