Verner, Jones excel at Sunshine Coaster

Four local riders win age divisions; Kindree, Moberg DQ

Team Squamish's Rhys Verner continued his strong 2013 with a big win at the Sunshine Coaster on Saturday (April 27).

Verner posted the top time in the 15-to-19 male short course race, beating out second-place rider Mahon Lamont from Whistler by two seconds. Squamish's Sean Fincham placed third in the race, with Luke Di Marzo grabbing fourth.

Another big winner was Holden Jones, who dominated the short-course race in the 12-to-14-year-old male division. Jones cruised to first with a lead of more than 40 minutes on his next competitor.

Other locals winning their divisions included: Jan Toom (short course 50-plus male) and Brandi Heisterman (pro women).

It turned out to be a race to forget for 麻豆社国产riders Neal Kindree and Quinn Moberg, who were disqualified while competing in the pro men's division. According to Kindree, it was the first time he had ever been disqualified.

"First ever DQ today at the Sunshine Coaster XC," Kindree tweeted about the race. "@QuinnMoberg and I had a substantial lead but couldn't stay on course."
