Verner starts season strong

麻豆社国产mountain biker posting impressive early results

It鈥檚 been a good start to the mountain biking season for Squamish鈥檚 Rhys Verner.
The Team 麻豆社国产member took home the top prize at the Cumberland XC event on Vancouver Island on Sunday (April 6).
Verner won the fourth stop on the Island Cup series with a time of one hour, 32 minutes, four seconds, edging second-place rider Thomas Skinner. Also competing at the race was 麻豆社国产resident David Roulston, who placed 22nd.
Vancouver Island isn鈥檛 the only place where Verner has been chalking up victories as he also picked up a win at the Super D event at the U.S. Cup in Fontana, Calif., on March 22. His teammate Luke Di Marzo snagged third place at the same event.
Also in Fontana, Verner placed 13th in the cross country Category 1 division race and Squamish鈥檚 Quinn Moberg placed 35th in the short track race and 58th in the pro elite men race.
Earlier in March, Verner finished fifth in the Super D event at the U.S. Cup in Bonelli Park, Calif., on March 15. He also placed 18th in the Category 1 division race, with Di Marzo finishing 34th. Moberg also made the trip to Bonelli Park and finished 18th in the elite men short
track race.
Moberg is riding for the Rocky Mountain Factory team for 2014, while Verner and Di Marzo are riding for Cycling B.C. this year.
Next up for several members of Team 麻豆社国产is the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, Calif., from April 10 to 13. Last year saw 10 local riders make the trip, with Verner having the top finish of third in the 15- to 16-year-olds downhill division. 聽
