Release the hounds at Brennan Park.
The whippets are back again in 麻豆社国产for their quinquennial appearance when the North American Whippet Racing Association and the National Oval Track Racing Association comes to town Aug. 29 and 30.
About 70 dogs and their owners from California, Oregon, Washington, Alberta and B.C. will battle it out for top honours. The small greyhound-type dogs can run 200 yards in about 10 to 12 seconds as they chase a piece of plastic to reach the finish line.
The NAWRA races occur on Aug. 29 and see dogs run 200 yards in a straight line. NOTRA races follow up on Aug. 30 with dogs running 300 metres on an oval course.
Racers on both days run from roughly 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Brennan Park soccer fields.
Spectators are welcome, but event organizers ask the public to leave their own dogs at home.
