Whistler, Temple set for HSMSL finals

League championship game set after playoff round

The two teams have been locked in for the Howe Sound Men’s Soccer League (HSMSL) final.

Sikh Temple battles Whistler FC in the 2014-15 league championship game after round one of the playoffs concluded on Sunday, March 29.

The early game saw Temple defeat Galileo 4-1. The defending champions’ win could be considered a bit of an upset as Temple was ranked third and Galileo ranked second in regular season action.

Navjot Kang scored a hat trick and Istvan Richter scored to lead Temple to the win, while Kevin Leaker scored the lone goal for Galileo.

In the late game, Whistler FC advanced to its first-ever HSMSL title game with a 2-0 win over the Ellis Moving Eagles. Whistler was also the top ranked team in the league during the regular season.

Paul Baxter and Dale Barker tallied for Whistler in the win.

Sunday’s action sets up the final two games of the HSMSL season on April 11. The Eagles battle Galileo for third place starting at 1 p.m. The big game between Sikh Temple and Whistler occurs at 3 p.m. The Brennan Park fields host both games.
