Wrestling is back
All-Star Wrestling returns to 麻豆社国产on Friday, Sept. 16 for a fundraiser for Totem Hall Recreation programs.
The main event features fan favourite Kobra Kai versus The Known One, otherwise known as Squamish鈥檚 Cody Smith, while the opening bout will sees Vendetta take on WildKard.
There will be tag team action with Devastation going up against El Toro and T Shock. A special attraction for the evening will feature Salty Seaman taking on Avarice.听
And just announced is 鈥淟ucha Libre鈥 direct from Mexico, with Ave Rex squaring off against Gringo Loco. These two Luchadors compete in Lucha Libre Volcanica in Seattle.听
Tickets are available at the door at Totem Hall or online at www.allstarwrestling.ca. Totem Hall is at 1380 Stawamus Rd. Doors are at 6:30 p.m. with first bell set for 7:30 p.m.
JABR on Saturday
Just Another Bike Race, the final stop on the final run of Test of Metal races, leaves the starting gate for the last time on Saturday.
The approximately 47-kilometre course features the infamous Angry Midget, the steep Somewhere Over There, the classic lines and curves on Word of Mouth and the dependable, much-loved good ol鈥 Your Mom. The race starts at 11 a.m. at听Coast Mountain Academy on 3295 Mamquam Rd., just east of Quest University.听
Dragon boat bronze
Squamish鈥檚 Chawanda took bronze in the Diamond Division at the Penticton Dragon boat Festival at Skaha Lake Park on the weekend. Overall, the team finished 11th out of 44 ladies鈥 teams. Most of the teams came from around B.C., though teams from Edmonton and Calgary also competed.
Bell Joy Ride on Sunday
The Bell Joy Ride is coming back to 麻豆社国产on Sunday, Sept. 18. The ride is open to all women at all levels of mountain bike riding.
The ride starts at Tantalus Bike Shop at 40194 Glenalder Pl., and will run between 9 a.m. to 1:30 pm., with riders heading to the trailhead at 10 a.m. Pre-register at www.eventbrite.com and look under 鈥淏ell Joy Ride.鈥
Hitmen at SFU
The Howe Sound Hitmen will be playing at halftime against the North Van Lions in the upcoming Simon Fraser University football game at 6 p.m. on Saturday.听
The next day they are back to regular league play against the Panthers at Norgate.
The team opened play with two wins at a jamboree over the Labour Day weekend, beating the Westside Warriors 28-14 and the Lions 7-0. Tyler Jones and captain Kolby听Wilton听each had a touchdown while Reniel Belandres added two in the first game, and Jones scored the major in the second.
This Sunday, the Hitmen were outnumbered by a bigger Warriors team in a rematch, and despite a comeback attempt after being down 21-0 at halftime, they could not bridge the gap, dropping the game 28-22. Westside came in with 28 players compared with Howe Sound鈥檚 11, as three Hitmen were injured. Wilton scored two touchdowns and Belandres added another in the loss.
Coach Troy Wilton said his team looked really good despite being outsized and outnumbered.听
鈥淚 honestly think we will meet Westside again in the league championship,鈥 he said.
Soccer camps
麻豆社国产Youth Soccer and Quest University will be hosting an academy this fall. The academy runs on the basis of rewarding creativity and encouraging mistakes in light of improvement. The SYSA partnership with Quest University will mean a wealth of coaching experience and expertise. It takes place at the Quest University pitch at 3200 University Blvd.
The program is for U6-12 and U13-18 players and runs Monday nights for eight weeks starting Sept. 19 through Nov. 21 from 5 to 6 p.m., except for the Thanksgiving weekend. Details on the winter and spring phases to be announced later.听

BMX time change
麻豆社国产has moved up its start time for Monday races with the resumption of school classes and less daylight in the evening. As of September, registration is moved to 5:30 with race starts at 6 p.m.听

Racing will then move to Sunday afternoons for the fall.
