Yang jumps to top-10 finishes

DRSS student places excels in triple jump, long jump at B.C. track championships

A handful of 麻豆社国产high school athletes made an impact at the B.C. High School Track and Field Championships in Langley on Friday (May 30).

Both Don Ross Secondary School (DRSS) and Howe Sound Secondary School (HSSS) sent competitors to the event, but the athlete with the best performance was DRSS student Wayne Yang.

Yang had the top 麻豆社国产finish, a third-place showing in the Grade 8 boys triple jump. He jumped 10.94 metres and placed third in the province. Yang also placed seventh in the Grade 8 boys long jump with a leap of 5.1 metres in the final.

He then competed in both the 4X100- and 4X400-metre relay teams along with teammates Connor Lum, Luke Parry and Marco Pascuzzi. The foursome placed 11th in the 4X400 competition and 19th in the 4X100.

HSSS student Hayden McLellan was the top-ranked local high school athlete, with an eighth-place finish in the Junior Boys long jump. Also from HSSS was Alysha Kearley-Renfro, who finished 17th in the Junior Girls long jump.

Pascuzzi also competed in the Grade 8 boys shot put and placed 11th with a toss of 8.98 metres, while Lum finished 15th in the Grade 8 boys triple jump with a leap of 9.30 metres. DRSS student Aidan Devlin grabbed a 17th-place showing in the Grade 9 boys high jump and Dylan Kerr was 26th in the Grade 9 boys discus throw.

Other DRSS students who competed at the event but were unable to advance past the preliminaries included Grade 9 student Kyley Rosser and Grade 8 student Lauren Petryshen.
