For so many young athletes in 麻豆社国产it鈥檚 the biggest day of the year.
The 麻豆社国产Youth Triathlon, the annual Mother鈥檚 Day Classic, returns to Brennan Park on May 10 and hundreds of kids are expected to swim, cycle and run their way to greatness.
Last year鈥檚 race was the biggest SYT ever, attracting 230 athletes with several local participants winning their divisions or faring well.聽
Despite the events success, the 2015 edition of the event was in jeopardy because the organizing committee was short and several positions were yet to be filled by as late as November, including race director after the departure of outgoing director Mike Hedberg.
However, at a Nov. 20 meeting of the organizing committee, his position was filled by Carole O鈥橞rennan and Sarah Ruttan. O鈥橞rennan is an experienced returning organizing member, and Ruttan is a pair of fresh eyes to the event.
Kids compete against racers in their same age group, with longer distances for older kids. Also returning for 2015 is the Tiny Tri, which allows kids five and under the chance to race. All Tiny Tri competitors must be accompanied by a parent throughout the entire course, including the swim portion of the event.
The course is similar to years past, as athletes kick off the triathlon in the pool at Brennan Park before hopping on a bike and cycling down Loggers Lane. Participants return to Brennan Park and complete the run portion on the grass soccer fields.
The event is still looking for volunteers, and organizers note on the website that it takes close to 100 volunteers to help make the event run smoothly. There are several positions available, from course marshals, set-up, transition and finish line to take down crews and everything in between.
