The District is currently looking at options to make travel safer for pedestrians and cyclists at Highlands Way North, Pitlochry Way, and Perth Drive.

A District traffic count found that Perth Drive sees approximately 1,300 vehicles per day while Highlands Way North carries close to 2,000 vehicles per day. The District acknowledges this is a problem given Perth is designed to carry more traffic than Highlands Way.
The paramedic, whose employer does not allow employees to be named in the media, says that the problem is there is a multitude of user groups frequenting the area, and the existing infrastructure isn’t able to support them all.
“There is just a consistent flow of the four user groups; city commuters, tradespeople, parents dropping off kids, and recreationalists,” the paramedic said.
“Everyone has a right to the space. I am not saying anybody is the problem. But it is four very different groups, with very different headspaces, who all use it as a way to get somewhere.”
The commuters start speeding through at about 5 a.m.; next are folks heading to school — walking, riding or driving — which intersects with tradespeople heading to work at about 8:30 a.m. at Highlands Way North and South.
“Both groups are frustrated. Parents are late for school, and tradespeople need to get to work, and there is a big traffic jam,” the resident said.
Throughout the day, there is a steady stream of traffic. After hours, cyclists come up to use the Adventure Hub.
