Miki鈥檚 Magic mountain bike trail was officially opened on Saturday, June 13, with Mikayla鈥檚 close friends and family. We cannot express the depth of our gratitude to so many people who made this trail possible.
Thank you to Mark Bunyan, one of Mikayla鈥檚 mountain bike coaches, for creating the vision of a trail in Mikayla鈥檚 honour that is fun for all levels; to SORCA for their constant support of all 麻豆社国产trails and for helping to make this trail happen so quickly; and to Alistair McCrone, B.C. recreational officer, for his work to get all the appropriate approvals. Alistair also completed the final approval on Jan. 8, 2020 unaware that it was Mikayla鈥檚 23rd birthday, incredible!
A huge thank you to Ted Tempany of Dream Wizards, who is truly a wizard with a digger! We are amazed by how he shaped the jumps and berms so smoothly to capture the essence of听 Mikayla鈥檚 two passions, mountain biking and skiing. Luke DeMarzo, Mikayla鈥檚 classmate at Howe Sound Secondary and teammate on Team Squamish, worked with Ted to help shape the final features and create the finished layout.听
Thank you to Mathias Horne, a close friend of Mikayla鈥檚 from HSSS, who created a stunning sign incorporating her love of biking, skiing and the Tantalus mountain range. His artistic skills blew us away once again!
Thank you to Monte Thompson, for helping the spectacular sign come to fruition and for patiently guiding us while we each did some of the cutting so we could share in the artistry of the beautiful memorial for Mikayla. Monte also did a brilliant job of leading the crew to get the sign hung at the trail entrance for us all to enjoy.
Thank you to the SORCA Trail Crew, to all the people who helped work on the trail in any way, and to the community of 麻豆社国产for the tremendous love and support we received, you have all helped to make Miki鈥檚 Magic come to life.
