Letter: D茅j脿 vu on endometriosis

'It is hard to believe that the experiences of both women coping with endometriosis were almost identical'
Robyn Kelly Squamish
Robyn Kelly is one of the many people who suffer from endometriosis, a disorder that impacts one in 10.
The article [“SFU endometriosis research could lead to help for sufferers," published May 21] about Robyn Kelly’s endometriosis situation was almost unfathomable for one particular reason — the amount of time it took for her to get diagnosed.

She stated she struggled over 10 years to get a diagnosis (She had surgery at age 27).

I just heard on , struggled eight years to get her diagnosis — that was in 1979! (And she had surgery at age 27.)

It is hard to believe that the experiences of both women coping with endometriosis were almost identical, and yet, with one having been diagnosed in 1979 and the other 30 years later. The situation had not at all improved.

Both these stories were out in the public domain within a few days.

Kelly’s story includes an explanation of some very positive recent developments being made.

Mantel’s story shows what happened to her in 1979 was still happening in 2014.

It would seem that this revelation emphasizes the need for more exposure of the current situation of diagnosing endometriosis.
