Letter: Is recycling a lie?

It is great that Andrew Hughes has started the conversation [麻豆社国产recycling smells like garbage and glass, published Aug. 6] on how ineffective recycling in 麻豆社国产and, for that matter, the world is.

I would like to see an article in The 麻豆社国产 tackling the question: Is plastic recycling a lie? and along with other Canadian news organizations have done so. The Post, in an article written by Raymond J. de Souza, October 16, 2020, claims municipal recycling of plastics amounts to about 10%.

Or you can check July 21, 2021 article by Joe Bock et al, to see that plastic recycling on a global scale is also a lie.

On the other hand, The 麻豆社国产 refers to sources such as the whose website says:  “CSSA was founded by leading Canadian retailers and manufacturers and is industry-led and industry-funded.”  As it says on their website, this organization is funded by companies that sell plastic

Seems like a conflict of interest.

is another source referred to by The Chief and a source the District of 麻豆社国产will refer you to if you ask too many questions about what really happens to our plastic. It is also a so-called not-for-profit organization funded by industry, makes the absurd claim that: more than 98% of plastics collected in B.C. are sold to end markets in B.C. with a local end market in Metro Vancouver where it is processed into pellets to be recycled into new packaging and products.

. Perhaps the Swedish people are a little more sophisticated, a little less gullible than Canadians and would not swallow the lie that plastic is being recycled.
