Letter: Traffic calming in the Garibaldi Highlands

'Often, I find myself halfway into the intersection before I see a car travelling downhill very quickly. I have seen other vehicles in the same situation.'
crosswalk
Weekday mornings around school drop-off and bus pick-up can be very dangerous for cars and pedestrians alike, says letter writer.
Regarding traffic calming in the Garibaldi Highlands [“Three speed tables being considered for Highlands Way North," published Nov. 4.”]

Left-hand turns and the pedestrian crossing where upper ust above the second traffic circle can be a little hectic with vehicles coming down from University Heights.

Drivers turning left from Kintyre onto The Boulevard need to inch out into the intersection to see vehicles travelling downhill from University Heights due to restricted visibility and can’t see any vehicles until they are already below the Mashiter bridge.

Often, I find myself halfway into the intersection before I see a car travelling downhill very quickly. I have seen other vehicles in the same situation.

When they see the vehicle coming downhill, they tend to increase speed while turning left and pay more attention to uphill traffic than to the crosswalk. Weekday mornings around school drop-off and bus pick-up can be very dangerous for cars and pedestrians alike. My kids have had several confusing and dangerous encounters with vehicles in this location.
