NEW YORK (AP) 鈥 The SXSW Film & TV Festival will kick off March 7 with the world premiere of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's 鈥淭he Studio,鈥 the Apple TV+ comedy series starring Rogen as a fictional Hollywood studio head.
The Austin, Texas, festival announced its slate Wednesday, unveiling the 96 features, including 82 world premieres, selected for its 32nd edition. The SXSW film festival, which is held alongside a sprawling music festival and tech conference, runs March 7-15.
鈥淭he Studio,鈥 to debut on Apple TV+ on March 26, stars Rogen alongside Catherine O鈥橦ara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonders.
鈥淭his brilliantly conceived series is exquisitely cast and written, capturing the fanatical love, dedication, pressure, and, yes, the hubris that defines our industry," Claudette Godfrey, vice president of the festival, said in a statement. "It鈥檚 hilariously spot-on, bringing to life the stories we鈥檝e all heard or witnessed firsthand. We can鈥檛 wait to experience the joy and energy radiating from the Paramount when we share this gem with the world.鈥
SXSW has long been a regular home to some of the movie genres that get less attention at other festivals, particularly comedies, horror films and thrillers. Last year, and launched to much fanfare at SXSW.
This year's slate includes the Ben Affleck-starring 鈥淭he Accountant 2,鈥 the action thriller sequel due out in late April. Also premiering: Alex Scharfman's 鈥淒eath of a Unicorn,鈥 a comedy about a father (Paul Rudd) and daughter (Jenna Ortega) who accidentally run over a unicorn.
Other selections include Mimi Cave's 鈥淗olland,鈥 a Michigan-set thriller starring Nicole Kidman; Flying Lotus' 鈥淎sh,鈥 a sci-fi movie set on a mysterious planet, starring Eiza Gonz谩lez and Aaron Paul; and Christopher Landon's 鈥淒rop,鈥 a Blumhouse thriller about a woman terrorized by an anonymous caller. Also on tap is 鈥淎re We Good?鈥 a documentary about comedian and podcaster Marc Maron.
