Events last week in Washington, DC where right-wing fanatics laid siege to the Capitol were deeply disturbing. Across the world, nearly universal outrage was expressed over such a shocking spectacle. The entire saga was despicable.

Reports of the municipal council meetings and other items in The Chief about the vanlifers points to attitudes and concerns that should be addressed by our leaders in business and in council.

Reading recent emails, monitoring online discussions throughout last year from folks on opposite sides of local debates, and in watching the shocking events in the United States, I feel compelled to reach out to my fellow citizens.

When it became clear that it wasn鈥檛 going to be possible to see family and friends during the holiday season, it was disheartening, for sure.

Let鈥檚 be up front as we talk with our kids about the shocking events in the United States this past week. The right to protest is an important part of Canadian history and democracy, along with the right to free expression.
